Welcome to the Beyond Nourished Podcast. This is the podcast where you can tune in for a short amount of time and leave with some golden nuggets on how to be a better, more efficient health-focused cook.

I'm your host Rachelle Girardin. I'm a certified nutritional practitioner, a holistic private chef, and I've been running my own business Beyond Nourished for over 10 years now.

We're in a hiring phase at Beyond Nourished for our new kitchen (f you haven’t heard, we're opening a private chef studio kitchen) that is set to open up in Vancouver, British Columbia and is the first of its kind, really. As I’ve had to start thinking about hiring new holistic chefs, I've realized that there are two main things that I really look for in terms of someone being efficient in the kitchen and possibly being a great fit for our team.

The first thing is from people who are efficient in the kitchen - and the people that I want to hire - is that they always know how to multitask. This really feeds into our concept of recipe stacking - if you don't know what that is, I highly recommend that you google us or listen to the podcast episode specifically about it. We have lots of information around what it means to recipe stack, but it basically means being able to use multiple surfaces and multiple pieces of cooking equipment at one time, which requires you to multi-task and not everybody naturally has this skill set!

Some people really need to focus just on one thing at a time, and then move on to the next. But when it comes to shaving off time in the kitchen and meal prepping efficiently, this is what is going to help you get from zero to 60 - and luckily, multi-tasking is something that can be learned. Don't think that just because you can't do it now, you won't be able to do it ever! It's something that requires practice, but there is a really wonderful thing that also I see in hiring people, and it's people that learn how to multitask are really also good at thinking ahead about what the next step is that they have to do. These two things kind of go hand in hand with one another.

Watch yourself when you're in the kitchen this week. Are you thinking about the next step that needs to be done, preparing yourself mentally so that you're one step ahead of where you're at and that you're not wasting any time in between? You'll see if you apply these two tactics - multitasking and thinking one step ahead, you're really going to start to see your experience in the kitchen improved from an efficiency standpoint.
